I don’t know about you but when I think of a bar of soap I think about this icky, germy, bar just sitting in the shower growing fungus. (ewwww!) That’s not really something I’d want to use on my face. However, Cor has given the boring ol’ bar of soap a makeover.
Cor has patented a delivery system that allows active ingredients to target the “core” of the skin’s most problematic concerns. Their highlighted active ingredient is nano-silver with silica, and a compound of Collagen, Sericin and Chitosan (CSC).
The components of Silica prepare the skin to take in all the active ingredients the Cor Soap has to offer. With its sponge-like quality, the silica pulls the active components deeply into the skin. Silver is a new discovery in the anti-bacterial world and it has proven to be very effective. Silver prevents the transfer of oxygen through the cell walls, killing off the ability for the bacteria to grow. Silver is also very healing and has been shown to increase cell turnover. The CSC molecules are micronized to their minutest size while remaining in an active state. The tiny size of the molecules will allow for maximum delivery to the deepest point in the dermis, reaching the source of any damage in the skin. The collagen in this product is a marine based collagen and is used because of its smaller molecular size and provides a better performance once penetrated into the skin. Sericin is a soluble protein extracted from silk and supplies moisture binding benefits, leaving the skin soft and supple. Chitosan is a natural fiber that balances out pH in the skin and evens out skin tone, giving a more hydrated, youthful appearance.
Since Cor has a pH of 7.2 and contains all natural ingredients, it is safe enough for even the most sensitive skin types. Simply lather up, let the foam sit on your skin to work its magic and then rinse away to beautiful skin.
The term “sensitive skin” can be closely linked with many different skin conditions. From rosacea to severe acne, any skin condition can cause sensitivity. In addition, sensitive skin does not discriminate against skin type, you can have combination, normal, dry, or oily skin and it can still be sensitive. Sensitive skin can also appear suddenly, resulting from a few major factors. It can be due to a cosmetic reaction to a product, climate change, stress, or even the foods we eat. It can be characterized by redness, tightness, itching, or irritation. It is important to know the proper tips and products to help protect and improve sensitive skin conditions.
First, for extremely sensitive skin, some have benefited from only cleansing their face once a day, generally in the evening. Rinse or use a lotion to cleanse in the morning. This will ensure you aren’t stripping the natural oils in your skin and possibly creating more dryness and irritation. You want to use a soap free mild cleanser. A popular favorite would be the Topix Citrix Antioxidant Cleanser. This is a mild, yet effective cleanser that contains powerful antioxidants your skin requires. One might also consider exfoliating only once or twice per week, with a gentle exfoliator. If your skin is very sensitive you will only want to exfoliate once per week. A great one to try is the PCA SKIN pHaza 4 Gentle Exfoliant. This has a light creamy texture with smooth jojoba beads to gently exfoliate your skin. Jojoba beads are spherical in shape, so they will not scratch or irritate your skin. You may also want to try a mask a few times a week to soothe and hydrate your sensitive skin. You can alternate the days you mask with the days you are exfoliating. After you exfoliate you will want to apply the mask the next day to nourish and protect your skin. We suggest the Skinceuticals Hydrating B5 Masque. This is a great skin booster containing hyaluronic acid and Vitamin B5, to hydrate and improve your skin’s tissue repair function.
You also want to wear an SPF of at least 15 to condition and protect your sensitive skin. Yes, you will need to wear sunscreen even on those cloudy and dreary days. By wearing sunscreen it allows your skin time to heal and your immune system the chance to repair existing damage. For those of who think that tanning clears up your skin that is just a myth. Tanning and sun exposure can often lead to Actinic Keratosis. This is a horrifying skin condition that people with sensitive skin, and who have severe sun damage, could be more susceptible to getting. Wearing your sunscreen will also help protect your delicate skin from the possible effects of skin cancer. Skin cancer is the most common form of cancer in the United States, so please don’t forget the sunscreen!
If you haven’t already, give Colorscience brush-on sunscreen a try. They are suitable for all skin types, even on the most sensitive of skin types. The Colorscience Sunforgettable Brush in All Clear has an SPF of 30, and is completely translucent. It is also water resistant, with a non greasy feel. Lotion based or chemical sunscreens can often irritate and clog your pores if you have sensitive skin. If your skin is on the oily side you will probably prefer a light oil free sunscreen and moisturizer. A good one to try is DDF Ultra Lite Oil Free Moisturizing Dew with SPF15. This works well for all skin types, absorbs quickly, and is fragrance free. It contains aloe and grape seed to soothe and protect the skin.
You also want to make sure you are drinking plenty of water, and taking vitamin supplements such as flax seed oil to hydrate and condition your skin. Also, make sure you are getting plenty of rest! This may be the hardest tip to follow but your skin really does need time to repair itself. It will be the best gift you can give your skin this holiday season!

Hey, sleeping beauty! Stay out a bit too late last night? Got an 8 AM meeting? Steer away from the coffee pot (coffee=dehydration), and read on. Use my tips to look as if you’ve had eight hours of sleep last night, instead of those margaritas.
When you can manage it, crawl out of bed and into the shower – a blast of cold water will open your eyes. In the shower, lather up with an energizing body wash. I absolutely love Molton Brown’s Vitalising Vitamin AB plus C Bath and Shower Gel. It smells like oranges, and it has multi-vitamin benefits, something your lackluster, dehydrated skin needs at a time like this. Your face is looking a bit dull and puffy too, so refresh your skin with an invigorating facial scrub. Exfoliating your skin helps to promote desquamation (shedding dead skin cells) and induces circulation; this will drain the accumulated fluids in your skin. Use a facial scrub with rounded polishing beads for gentle stimulation. Peter Thomas Roth Anti-Aging Buffing Beads is a great choice, it contains glycolic and salicylic acids to get deep into your pores to rid of dead skin cells and zap out any stress or dirt related break-outs (I bet you forgot to wash your face last night!).
When you’ve finished your shower you’ll feel much better- your face may still be a bit puffy, especially your eyes. Get the red out with redness relieving eye drops and apply a cool wash cloth or cotton pads over your eyes for a few minutes. Rest for a moment, but don’t fall asleep! The chill of a cold compress will shrink the capillaries and stimulate lymphatic drainage. Finish your eye treatment with a cooling eye gel. June Jacobs Cooling Cucumber Eye Gel has a refreshing cucumber extract and lots of antioxidants to de-puff and energize your eyes. Your skin is dull and lack-luster because it hasn’t had time to rest and replenish its oxygen levels, plus the barrier of your skin is compromised and can’t hold moisture, so it’s dehydrated… thus accentuating lines and imperfections. To bring the oxygen and glow back into your skin give yourself a light facial massage with an antioxidant-rich moisturizer, like Jan Marini’s Recover-E, which incorporates healing properties, anti-inflammatory agents, along with potent and proven free radical scavengers.
Morning exercise is great for activating your lymphatic system and getting the fluids moving. If you don’t have time to go to the gym or do your yoga, a few jumping jacks, crunches and stretches in the middle of the living room will get your blood flowing- this takes just a few minutes, but makes all the difference in the way you’ll feel and look.
You’re probably pretty parched from all the moving and de-puffing you’ve been doing, so stride on over to the kitchen and pour yourself some kombucha. Kombucha is an amazing wonder-drink that uses a special fermentation technique to release enzymes, probiotics, polyphenols and natural acids. I swear by Kombucha as my instant pick-me-up. Kombucha helps to support the immune system, digestion, metabolism, liver function (much needed after those margaritas!), body alkalinity, even anti-aging and healthy skin and hair! What other drink can claim that? Plus, it’s delicious, not over-the-top sweet, with a tart taste and is oh-so-refreshing. No, the manufacturers of Kombucha did not pay me to write this (unfortunately, they didn’t give me any free kombucha either). Remember; always check with your physician before taking supplements even if they are available OTC.
Don’t forget to put on some make-up before you head out the door! Nothing too drastic though- make sure you don’t OD on the foundation (which can make fine lines look more prominent, and dull skin even duller), choose a hydrating formula foundation or tinted moisturizer with an illuminating base to brighten your skin tone- layer it under a hydrating powder. I like to start with a base of Stila Illuminating Tinted Moisturizer SPF 15 because it has moisture, tint, light-reflectors and sunscreen all in one. Then I apply my concealer – it’s your best friend for covering those red-and-purple eyes. Last, I dust a light layer of bareMinerals Hydrating Mineral Veil to finish off my primary foundation. Now for some color! Make your cheeks pop with a healthy flush of pink, bareMinerals Blush in Flowers looks drastic in the container, but gives a true-tone flush, providing for a healthy glow with its mineral formula. Make your eyes pop a bit too with a speck of mascara on the upper lashes- skip sparkles and deep or colorful eye shadow tones as they’ll draw too much attention to any remaining puffiness. Curl your lashes to open your eyes and line the inside bottom rim of your eyes with a taupe or white eyeliner (this is a trick I learned from the Tyra Banks show), white liner conceals any remaining redness and makes your eyes look more open. Feel free to be bold with your lips- go with a deep red, fuschia or coral tone. Shiny, rosy lips draw attention to your gorgeous teeth and smile.
Now let’s toast (with kombucha) to looking and feeling bright eyed and bushy tailed!
A growing number of men have become aware of the benefits of a daily skin care regimen. From basic shave creams to multi-purpose products that treat and protect the skin, men have a wide variety of high quality skin care products to choose from. To help simplify and demystify men’s skin care, we felt a 5 minute skin care regimen designed just for men was long over-due!
With multi-purpose products a complete skincare regimen can be complete in as few as three steps.
Step 1: Cleansing your skin both morning and night is a critical part of your skin care regimen. After being in the elements all day, you have to rid your skin of excess oils and dirt. In addition, after sleeping you also want to remove any product residue from the night before and any oil build-up, besides…it just feels good! Using an alcohol-free, oil-free and fragrance-free cleanser is a refreshing option that will not add any unwanted scent. The aMenity Gel Face Cleanser is a great option for those who prefer a low lather cleanser or who have an oiler skin type. The Jack Black Pure Clean Daily Facial Cleanser is a 2 in 1 cleanser toner; it’s oil-free and fragrance-free and is often preferred by those with dry to combination, and sensitive skin types who need deep cleansing.
Step 2 (only when you shave!): Use a multi-purpose shaving product. Murad Man Cleansing Shave is not only an ultra smooth shave cream, but it is also cleanses and tones the skin and provides an infusion of antioxidants to help protect the skin from free-radical damage…free radicals are unstable molecules. (There is a great article explaining more about free radicals in our very own beautyWise newsletter)
Step 3: Moisturize & Protect. In the morning, a multi-purpose moisturizing sunscreen is a great option for the busy man on the go. Jack Black Double Duty Face Moisturizer is a great choice for those of you who get light sun exposure (to and from the office). This moisturizer protects the skin with a broad-spectrum (UVA and UVB) SPF20. In addition, it contains ingredients that are potent sources of anti-oxidants which are necessary for improving the appearance of your skin and for combating free-radical damage. If you work in the sun or have a high level of sun exposure a SPF30 or greater is the better way to go…Jack Black Sun Guard Oil-Free Very Water/Sweat Resistant Sunscreen is an option, don’t forget to reapply throughout the day!
In three easy steps you have a great foundation for a basic skin care regimen. If you feel that you need extra treatment around the eyes you can add the Menscience Eye Rescue Formula, it’s excellent and super hydrating! Customers love it and we love it too! The ingredient Hyaluronic Acid is ultra hydrating – the Coenzyme Q10 and Vitamin A support collagen repair and cell renewal – Vitamins C, E and Green Tea fight free-radicals.
