Does My Oily Skin Really Need a Moisturizer?

Published on by

When I started my esthetics training we quickly learned the process to healthy skin! “Cleanse, tone, moisturize, protect!” Being a girl with acne-prone, oily skin, I didn’t want to add any sort of moisturizer to my skin. I sat down with an instructor one day to go over my regimen. She asked what moisturizer I used, and I said, “Oh! My skin is oily, so I don’t use one!” She looked at me like I was crazy! She explained to me why even oily skin needs a moisturizer, and now, dear friends, I will share that information with you.

You see, believe it or not oily skin can still be dehydrated, meaning it is lacking water, not oil. Dehydration in skin can lead to overactive sebaceous (oil) glands making the skin oily. Using an oil free moisturizer will balance out moisture levels, which will help keep oil production at bay.

It took a couple of months for me to even believe this enough to try it. I finally did, and wouldn’t ya know it! She knew what she was talking about!  If you still aren’t buying it, just give it a few weeks. Try an oil free moisturizer! La Roche Posay Effaclar Daily Mattifying Moisturizer is one of my favorites. I bet you’ll notice the difference!

The Rose & Willowbark Blemish-Free Mask is the newest mask by the amazing line, Juara. Juara skin care focuses on using natural ingredients that have been used for centuries but in a new and innovative way. The new Rose & Willowbark Blemish-Free Mask contains powerful and soothing ingredients making it a wonderful addition to the Juara line. For anyone that has battled acne or blemish prone skin, the new Rose and Willowbark Mask is a great solution.

The active botanicals in the mask include White Willowbark, Red Sandalwood, Rice Protein, Kaolin Clay, and Rose Water. White Willowbark has been used for centuries as a natural remedy to help with clogged pores. It is rich in Vitamin C, B, E, and salicylic acid which will help to clear out pores the natural way and help to reduce breakouts and prevent any new blemishes from developing. The red sandalwood in this mask will help to calm and cool the skin while the rose water acts as a natural anti-septic and will help to reduce redness. Since the rose and willlowbark blemish-free mask also contains Kaolin Clay it will draw out dirt and impurities from the skin making pores less visible.

You can use this mask 1-3 times per week depending on how often you experience breakouts. You can also use this mask as a spot treatment and leave on for 30 minutes, or you can leave it on overnight. Since this mask uses active botanicals you may notice a slight tingling at first but this will dissipate as your skin adjusts. Because the ingredients and formulation are so pure, even sensitive skin types and break-out prone skin can use this mask.

How to Pop a Pimple

Published on by

They always say that you should never, ever pop a pimple. But most folks have that ‘picking syndrome’ where they won’t pass a mirror without squeezing what should be left alone (ahem, guilty as charged…).

If you absolutely MUST extract an icky pimple then do it right! You’ll want to make sure that you don’t spread the bacteria, and you’ll also want to make sure that you are being gentle on your skin.

First, wash your face with a mild cleanser to rid of dirt and residue. Next, apply a warm washcloth to the area where you’ll perform the extraction. The heat from the washcloth will open the pores and soften the skin. Then grab two tissues and wrap them around your index fingers. Apply gentle pressure from opposite sides of the pimple, and don’t squeeze too hard. If nothing is coming out, leave it alone for another day or two, and apply a spot treatment on the area instead. If you’re successful in performing the extraction toss those tissues and apply a cotton ball soaked in hydrogen peroxide to the area, it’s important to rid of the bacteria to assure you won’t be spreading infection to other parts of your face. Lastly, apply a tiny bit of Neosporin with cotton swab to the spot; this will facilitate quicker healing time and anti-inflammatory benefits.

To prevent new pimples from popping up use an anti-acne cleanser and moisturizer as part of your daily regimen. The M2 Skin Technologies line is a great choice, as it has mandelic and malic acids to exfoliate and keep the skin clear.

Avene Professional TriAcneal

Published on by

We all remember being 14 and washing our skin raw with harsh scrubs to get rid of those clogged pores and pesky pimples. It’s only natural that you’d look to something to strip your face clean of all that icky dead skin, so it’s almost an impulse to cleanse with something super harsh and purifying. Thank goodness we’ve learned that gentle care is best when it comes to our skin, but from time to time the 14 year old in us is just dying to break out the bar soap, buff puff, and Noxzema. If you have this impulse please… slowly step away from the sink, go online, and order the Avene Professional TriAcneal. This is by far the best stuff since sliced bread.

Avene Professional TriAcneal has three different ingredients that fight acne and active breakouts; Retinaldehyde, Glycolic Acid, and newly patented Efectiose. These ingredients not only fight breakouts they’re also anti-aging! Avene is touted as one of Europe’s most gentle skin care lines, as the formulas are based on soothing thermal spring water. So while the active ingredients are battling your most frustrating skin foes, the gentle formula is also soothing, nurturing, and reducing redness.

Avene Professional TriAcneal helps to reduce acne scarring while exfoliating the skin and leaving it baby-bum smooth, and with just one application you’ll notice that your pores look more clear and tight, your overall skin texture looks more even, and redness and irritation is left to a minimum (unlike with many other acne products).
Though I am lucky enough to try hundreds of products that we carry at, I’m excited to say that Avene TriAcneal is hands down my newest favorite!

What is acne? Besides a nightmare, acne is the infection of the follicle that has been blocked by an overproduction of oil, debris and dead skin cells. Acne can take on many different forms including: whiteheads, blackheads, papules, pustules and cysts.

Whiteheads – are smaller in size and remain under the skin, they can come to a white ‘head’, thus the name whitehead.

Blackheads – are similar to whiteheads but have reached the surface of the skin and oxidized, therefore turning black or grey in color.

Papules – White or pink bumps on the surface of the skin.

Pustules – Similar to papules but usually have an irritated red ring with a pus-filled top.

Cysts – Most of the infection in under the skin surface. Cystic acne is often hormonal and common in adults. Cystic breakouts can scar easily and are often painful to the touch.

Acne is associated with a hormone called androgen, which can cause an excess of sebum production in the pore.

You can treat a mild case of acne with a variety of different over the counter products. Look for ingredients like benzoyl peroxide, salicylic acid, sulfur, retinol, and glycolic acid.

Treating a serious case of acne may require an oral prescription such as antibiotics or Accutane. Consult with your doctor or dermatologist to determine which acne products and treatments are best for you.

Battling Breakouts

Published on by

We have all had a break out on our skin and it’s usually at the worst time …like right before we leave for vacation or have an event to go to.  Some products we use can irritate our skin and actually cause the break out to get worse or create more break outs. The iS Clinical Active Serum is a multi purpose product that will lessen the appearance of a break out and help to heal the skin.

The iS Clinical Active Serum not only addresses acne, but also helps to diminish fine lines, wrinkles, and hyperpigmentation. It works great for smoothing and softening the texture of your skin and will help to lighten post acne scars and discoloration. It contains Alpha-Hydroxy Acids like lactic and glycolic which will help to exfoliate and resurface the skin. It also has white willow bark extract which is a source of salicylic acid used to kill bacteria and treat the acne under the surface of the skin by deep cleansing the pore. It will also help with inflammation making this a quick and effective product for those troublesome break outs.

To fully address your concerns we suggest a complete anti-acneic regimen. Cleanse twice a day with the iS Clinical Cleansing Complex, hydrate with the Hydra Cool Serum then spot treat with the Active Serum. You can also use the active serum as a spot treatment for acne by applying it once or twice a day directly to the area of concern.  If you are experiencing painful acne that is more cystic or under the skin try the iS Clinical Pro-Heal Serum Advance Plus as your AM skin treatment. This will help to reduce inflammation and heal the skin while preventing further damage.

If you are also looking for effective anti aging results you will want to apply the white lightening complex in the AM, then the active serum in the PM to target hyperpigmention and skin discoloration such as post acne scars.

Is Clinical uses only the finest pharmaceutical grade ingredients to give you results in a quick amount of time with no hassle. You really can survive a bad break out and keep them from coming back using the right products!

Dr. Dennis Gross Trifix Oil-Free Moisturizer!

Published on by

Those of us that have oily skin and are acne prone know just how hard it is to bring ourselves to moisturize. We’re fearful of using something that may make our skin feel oily, and many of us inadvertently think that a moisturizer will clog our pores and cause more acne. It’s true that many conventional facial moisturizers are just too heavy for us oily-skinned folks, and that’s why it’s always best to look for an oil-free moisturizer to add into our regimens. An oil-free moisturizer will deposit water into the skin to provide hydration, which in turn will signal for the sebaceous glands to slow down with the oil production. Well-hydrated skin will produce less oil and therefore fewer breakouts will occur. Look for an oil-free moisturizer that has added benefits, too. Our newest favorite is the NEW Dr.Dennis Gross Trifix Oil-Free Moisturizer, which is a treatment powerhouse and more! It’s a fast absorbing formula that targets clogged pores, blackheads, whiteheads, and major breakouts while soothing irritation and reducing inflammation. Aloe and bisabolol soothe and quench the skin while willow bark extract reduces redness and irritation associated with acne and acne treatments.

Dr. Dennis Gross Trifix Oil-Free Moisturizer works well in a comprehensive treatment regimen. If your acne is active we suggest pairing the moisturizer with Dr. Dennis Gross Skincare Trifix Acne Clearing Lotion, a treatment product that combines numerous treatment ingredients to clear skin quickly sans-irritation. Dr.Dennis Gross Skincare All in One Cleansing Foam is a great companion cleanser. Remember to wear SPF on daily basis, especially when using exfoliating treatment products or BPO.
