Sometimes I wake up and feel like a princess. My Egyptian cotton sheets are softer than clouds, my fluffy Persian cat is purring at my feet, the sun is shining, and the whole house smells like coffee. It’s the happiest, most princessy day of the week… Saturday! Besides dressing up, shopping, and getting my hair blown out, I’m not doing a thing. But on days like Monday, Wednesday, and even Friday I’m feeling like Cinderella (before Price Charming came along). When you’re in a rush to wash your face, grab a Venti and make it into the office before the clock strikes nine, then you feel anything but royal.
To feel a bit more fabulous I reach for Vera Wang Glam Princess on those slogging weekdays. The initial shock of refreshing red berries, guava and juicy pear get your mouth watering, and as the day wears on so does the fragrance, releasing notes of honey, vanilla, and cedar wood. The bottle is also super cute and great for gift giving (hey, the holidays are coming!), but the most amazing thing about this scent is that it lasts and lasts. It’s original and classic at the same time, just like Vera Wang wedding gowns!

Chicken skin, skin bumps, call it what you will. The medical name for this condition is “Keratosis Pilaris” or “KP”. I have had KP since I was a little girl. I would get teased about it constantly and it made me grow very insecure about my skin. I have it pretty bad on my upper arms and thighs. It has improved with age, but it will never go away. Luckily, I am able to keep the inflammation to a minimum with a few topical products, similar to the ones I have listed below.
What is KP? Keratosis Pilaris is a harmless genetic skin condition that appears as small bumps on the upper arms and thighs, Although it can be present anywhere on the body (except the palms of the hands and feet.) KP is a build up of keratin (the material our hair, skin and nails is made up of), causing the hair follicles to clog, forming a bump on the skin’s surface. KP can worsen during the cooler months when the skin becomes drier or with hormonal changes, such as pregnancy.
There is no cure for KP, but there are a few treatment options. Results do vary, based on the severity of the KP. You want to look for creams and lotions containing Lactic Acid and/or Glycolic Acid. Lactic Acid and Glycolic Acid exfoliates the skin helping to smooth the bumps and slough off dead skin cells. Extra Virgin Coconut oil is an alternative treatment, for those of you who prefer a more natural product. Lather extra virgin coconut oil on your skin before you take a shower and gentle scrub with a loofah. You may also use the extra virgin coconut oil as a moisturizer after you shower.
Skinstore.com carries a few products specifically designed to help treat KP;

Found most commonly on the legs and ankles, varicose veins are twisted, enlarged veins near the surface of the skin. These veins are caused by weakened valves in your legs. When the one-way valves are working properly they direct blood flow upwards toward your heart. When they are not functioning correctly, blood collects in your legs and pressure builds up causing the veins to become large, weak and twist. Varicose veins run in families, but age, weight gain, pregnancy, and standing\sitting for long periods of time are also common causes. At home treatment may be all you need to ease your symptoms and keep them from getting worse.

- Wear compression stockings
- Elevate your legs
- Avoid long periods of standing and sitting
- Exercise
The Phytomer Beautiful Legs Blemish Eraser Cream can also be massaged gently over the legs in an upward motion to help with appearance and imperfections on the legs.
Other signs and symptoms of Varicose Veins may be: swelling in legs and feet,
Itching over the vein, color changes in the skin, dry skin, inflammation, and scaling. Varicose veins typically are not a serious problem but in some cases it can be a sign of blockage in deeper veins and need treatment. If you have any of these signs or symptoms we recommend contacting your physician.

Just because summer is over that simply is no excuse to neglect your tootsies. Give your feet the tender loving care they deserve! Here is how to give yourself a spa-like pedicure in the comfort of your own home.
Before we begin here are the items you will need:
1. Remove any old toe nail polish with a cotton swab soaked in nail polish remover.
2. Dip your feet in a basin tub filled with warm water and foot soak bath crystals. The crystals will help to soften rough patches on your heels and soles. Soaking will aid in calming and soothing tired achy feet. Soak feet for 5- 10 minutes. Try finding Foot Soak Bath Crystals that contains essential oils; Many essential oils have antibacterial and antiseptic qualities.
3. Exfoliate the rough patches on your heals by using a foot file or foot scrub. This will leave your skin smoother and much softer. The exfoliation will aid in allowing the skin to absorb creams much more effectively.
4. Pat feet dry with a clean dry towel. Apply a rich, creamy foot cream. Massage the cream into the soles and pads of your feet. Make sure you are paying extra attention to tense muscles. When choosing a foot cream, you may want to select one that contains Peppermint oil. Peppermint oil may help to ease any pain or tension you might have. It also acts a stress reducer. Next, you want to dab cuticle oil onto your cuticles and massage in. Afterward, gently push cuticles back with an orange stick.
5. Clip and file nails into a rounded square shape. I recommend using a Glass nail file. Glass nail files deliver a very smooth finish, which is hard to achieve with traditional nail files. They are incredibly easy to use and will never become dull.
6. Dip a cotton swab in nail polish remover and wipe over each toe nail to remove any excess oil or moisture that may remain.
7. Paint each toe nail with a nail polish primer base coat. This will help to keep your nail polish from chipping as well as help keep the polish from staining the toe nail itself.
8. Paint on your favorite nail lacquer shade. Many colors that are popular for fall are rich reds, bold burgundy’s and passionate plums. Or go wild and explore your playful side and with an electric cobalt blue. Brush on two coats; wait a few minutes between each coat.
9. Apply a clear top coat and allow nails to fully dry before applying shoes or socks.
10. Enjoy your fresh and gorgeous pedicure.

You can detox your body for fall with this DIY firming coffee body scrub. This luxurious body scrub contains coffee, coconut, and hydrating oils to tighten, exfoliate, and nourish the skin. Coffee is stimulating and firming and acts as an anti cellulite product, while coconut provides additional exfoliation and antioxidant benefits. This scrub is also great to use before you apply your self tanner because it will exfoliate and nourish the skin.
To make this homemade concoction you will need the following ingredients:
- ¼ cup ground coffee beans -
- 1½ cups raw sugar (for sensitive skin use pure cane sugar because it will be less abrasive)
- ¼ cup shredded coconut-
- ¾ cup macadamia nut oil or olive oil
- 1 tsp. honey
- 2-5 drops essential oil of choice (try orange or peppermint)
You will mix the ingredients together adding the honey and essential oil last. You will want to store in an air tight container at room temperature. Canning jars work great or you can go to any health food store or specialty shop and pick up a plastic or glass container. Apply to moist skin to your whole body, paying close attention to those problem areas, like elbows, knees, and feet. Rinse well with warm water then pat your skin dry. For added benefits apply a hydrating body lotion to seal in moisture. We like the Juice Beauty Green Apple Extra Firming Body Moisturizer.
You will want to use up your scrub in a few weeks time since there are no preservatives. You can make a double batch and give away as gifts too! While we do carry a lot of amazing body products at SkinStore, we love to experiment with DIY recipes too! Get creative and craft up your own anti-aging body recipe! Got any good ones? Let’s talk underarms. They’re the pits. They are pit-iful. They need a ton of TLC to stay looking smooth and healthy.
There are a few things you can do to prevent ingrown hairs, rashes, and tenderness when shaving your underarms. There are also a few tricks to getting a closer shave than ever before, and going longer between shaves, too!
Always shave in the shower or bath, when your skin is damp. Hot water softens the hair and the skin holds onto the hair less tightly when it’s damp. Never, ever dry shave, especially under your arms.
Always use shave cream or gel, and invest in a high quality razor. Your razor should have at least three blades and a moisture cushion around the blade. One-blade disposable razors shouldn’t have ever been made.
Because the hair under your arms grows in a circle type of shape rather than in one direction, it’s important to maneuver your blade to adjust to hair growth – always shave downwards first, then upwards, and then sideways if you have any strays. Don’t go over the area more than three times with your blade, and if you have any stubborn strays left remove them with tweezers post-shower.
Don’t apply deodorant or antiperspirant after shaving, let your skin rest overnight, or at least for a few hours. If you must use something then use a gentle or natural formula with soothing ingredients like aloe.
If you’re prone to getting bumps or rashes after shaving apply an aftershave gel post-shave, we like Shaveworks The Cool Fix because it’s soothing, cooling, and has glycolic acid to exfoliate the skin and prevent ingrowns.

Summer is in full swing and it’s hot, hot, hot. The shorts and mini skirts are making their summer time debut and that means women are looking to get their legs ready for their center stage performance. Shaving can sometimes be a drag, as well as time consuming and sometimes painful. Here are few products to help keep the stubble to a minimum.
Billy Jealousy Hydroplane Shave Cream- Just because this product is defined as a “Men’s” product, does not mean its hands off for women. This sulfate free, silky gel provides an incredible shaving barrier for both men and women. The natural fruit oils condition and skin and the dimethicone eliminate friction irritation.
Shaveworks The Cool Fix- Apply after shaving or waxing to calm razor burn and prevent ingrown hairs. The instant cooling sensation is soothing and relaxes any form of irritation.
Whish Pomegranate Shave Savour Hair Inhibiting Gel- This fast absorbing gel, repairs any nicks or minor cuts and will help to soothe the skin with natural antiseptics including aloe, sage, and lemon extract. The best part is while using the product over time it will help to slow the hair growth and extend the life time of your smooth silky gams.
We all know that there is no such thing as a healthy tan. And instead of wasting our time soaking up the sun by the pool we’re doing more productive things, like trying out hundreds of different self tanners!
The new NUXE Soleil Prodigieux Self Tanning Body Lotion hit a sweet spot for us, because it’s not only a self tanner that gives a beautiful deep and rich brown tan (no orange!!!)) it also has SHIMMER! Because this self-tanner is buildable you can gauge just how tan you want to be (a hint of sun or a full-fledged Bora Bora glow, all up to you), the Frangipani flower extract ensures you’ll smell yummy, too!
