Hot Ingredient – Turmeric

Published on by

This common spice is getting out of the cupboard and into your skin care products. For centuries turmeric was and is still currently being used for its antiseptic and antibacterial properties. It is now being put into skin care products, namely eye care and anti-aging products. It can treat fine lines and dark circles, and is a powerful antioxidant. You may also see turmeric in sunscreens for its antioxidant properties.

It is also successful in treating blackheads and has skin lightening benefits which will even out skin tone, making it effective for post acne scarring. Because turmeric is anti-inflammatory it is beneficial for most skin types, especially oily and acneic skin. Turmeric is also very healing so it will help repair extreme skin conditions such as psoriasis and eczema. If this product is mixed with a carrier oil such as jojoba it can eliminate spots caused by eczema. Turmeric has many beneficial uses; you can make turmeric into a paste like texture and it will effectively treat cuts, scrapes and diaper rashes. You can also take turmeric in a pill or powder form for added health benefits.

Here are a few products containing turmeric that SkinStore.com offers:

Are You Using Too Much Or Too Little Product?

Published on by

A lot of the time people think “if some is good, more is better.” But is this really true? Generally speaking, if you are using good, quality skin care products, a little bit goes a long way. If you are using too much product, you might just be washing away money.

For moisturizers, a pea sized to a dime sized amount is usually all that you will need. You want to make sure the product covers the entire area you are trying to treat, but not so much that there is some left visible on the skin. Make sure your skin is slightly damp when you apply a moisturizer too so it can spread better, absorb quicker and you will use less product. Don’t forget your neck and décolleté!

On the other hand, sunscreens are like medicine. In order for sunscreen to be active, the right amount needs to be used. The average-sized person needs to use 1oz of product per application for the entire body. 1oz is about the size of a shot glass. For just the face, neck and décolleté you need approximately a teaspoon full to get the proper coverage. Sunscreen is needed every day, including the winter months.

What is Vitiligo?

Published on by

Sometimes when we get too much sun or have a hormonal imbalance, we get something called hyperpigmentation which is when our melanocytes get kicked into overdrive and they leave brown marks behind such as freckles, age spots, dark marks, etc. Vitiligo is the complete opposite. Vitiligo occurs when melanocytes no longer produce pigment, therefore they leave white splotches behind on the skin. Usually Vitiligo is prominent on the face, hands and wrists. The patches of depigmentation usually start out small, but they often enlarge and change shape over time. Vitiligo can affect all races, but it more noticeable in those with darker skin tones. Unfortunately there is no cure for Vitiligo, but there are products out there that can help cover the unpigmented spots.  Dermablend Cosmetics and Exuviance Coverblend products specialize in covering up imperfections such as scarring, uneven pigmentation, birth marks and rosacea.

Understanding Stretch Marks

Published on by

Rodial Stretch MXStretch marks appear when the skin has been stretched to the point of breaking down. When the skin becomes weak and the support structure begins to separate, the result is grooved and discolored skin. Collagen is normally damaged at the dermis level and a scar or stretch mark is left behind. The skin will normally have a red or purplish color at first which over time will fade out to have a silver or white appearance. Common causes are pregnancy, rapid growth and/or hormones.

Over the counter products will help to reduce the appearance of stretch marks. They normally do not entirely go away. Stretch mark creams will help to fade the discoloration of the scar and some will help to stimulate collagen reproduction.

Consider These Products To Treat Stretch Marks:

- Belli Stretchmark Minimizing Cream

- Rodial Stretch MX

- StriVectin SD Intensive Concentrate for Stretch Marks and Wrinkles

Introducing Pomega5

Published on by

Pomega5Natural and hypoallergenic, the Pomega5 line is nature’s recipe for your skin. Pomega5 is a skin care line based around the pomegranate fruit and the essential fatty acid it produces through its seeds, Omega 5. This essential fatty acid is one of the most potent antioxidants known to modern science, almost six times more potent than Grape Seed Extract. Omega 5 is a high energy molecule that helps to calm inflammation, reduces aging free radicals, is easily absorbed into the skin and it is a plant-based estrogen (phytoestrogen). Phytoestrogen ingredients help to support hormonal imbalance in the skin which can lead to breakouts or dryness.

The healing oil from the pomegranates seeds can be found in every product within the Pomega5 line. Each product tries to incorporate at least one ingredient from the sea, soil, plants and flowers. Pomega5 is part of a lifelong mission from the creator to provide you with a brand that is safe, honest and authentic.

Top Three products from Pomega5:

- Pomega5 Healing Cream

- Pomega5 Grenade Anti Rides Nourishing Cream

- Pomega5 Daily Revitalizing Concentrate

What is a Standard Regimen?

Published on by

What is a Standard Regimen?A standard regimen consists of 4 steps, Cleanse, Tone, Moisturize and Protect (SPF). This standard regimen is to be done daily, twice a day except the SPF step which would just be applied in the morning, prior to sun exposure. Most people will go beyond the basics and add additional steps, exfoliation, masks, and treatments for both face and eyes. Exfoliation is to be done 1-3 times weekly and is applied between the tone and moisturize steps.

Masks are also to be applied 1-2 times weekly. Masks would be applied to cleansed skin then followed with a moisturizer after rinsing. An anti-aging treatment is normally applied 1-2 times daily and is also applied between the tone and moisturize steps. There are different treatments for both face and eyes. We normally recommend exfoliation be done at night and the anti-aging treatments to be applied twice daily. Masks can be applied either AM or PM. With all of these steps the correct way to apply the products would look like this:

AM                                        PM

Cleanse                                 Cleanse

Tone                                      Tone

(Mask)                                   Exfoliation

Anti-Aging treatment               (Mask)

Moisturize                              Anti-Aging Treatment

Protect (SPF)                         Moisturize

Give Your Lips Some Love

Published on by

LipsLips are one of the most common areas of our bodies that we tend to neglect. Lips do differ from the skin on other areas of our bodies and this means they need special attention. Lips are composed of very thin skin layers and do not contain any oil glands.

Lips are one of the most sun exposed parts of the body and are very vulnerable to dryness and damage. Since the lips do not contain any melanin, they do not have any natural UV filters. Make sure to get a lip treatment with a good SPF. The sun can also damage the collagen in lips, leaving them wrinkled and thin.

There are lip treatments available that contain beneficial exfoliants. Make sure to use a product specific for the lip area since lip tissue differs greatly from the skin on other areas of our bodies. Exfoliation can help to increase lip volume by plumping the skin and it can help with hydration by removing dead skin cell build up.

Our lips help define who we are. Be ready for all the attention you will receive with a new, improved, beautiful pout.

Don’t Forget About Your Neck

Published on by

Don't Forget About Your NeckMost of us are now diligently caring for our facial skin with the help of daily regimens…but what about the neck? Often we forget to treat our neck the same as we do our face. The skin on our necks is actually thinner and can show aging faster than our facial skin. You can use facial products on the neck, though there are treatments out there specifically for the issues of the neck; sagging skin, thinning skin, horizontal creasing and crepiness.

Why do our necks age faster? The muscles in the neck are not connected to any bone structure, and therefore the skin on your neck loses elasticity faster with age, making it more prone to wrinkles and sagging. The neck also has fewer sebaceous glands, making it more prone to dryness and premature aging. To help diminish and prevent the signs of turkey neck, make sure to treat, exfoliate and protect the neck area daily. It is recommended to use facial exfoliants on the neck area as body exfoliators can be too harsh. Don’t forget the sunscreen since this area needs daily protection just as much as the rest of your body!

When applying a cream or serum to your neck, it is very important that you apply in an upward motion. Always go in the opposite direction of gravity so you are not contributing to sagging.

A Few Recommendations:

- Dr. Brandt Time Arrest V Zone Neck Cream

- StriVectin-TL Tightening Neck Cream

- Rodial Chin and Neck Lift
