Everyone knows that most melanoma skin cancer and skin photo-aging is caused by the UVA and UVB rays in sunlight, right? Maybe not. According to a recent study by the Mayo Clinic, melanoma cancers have increased eightfold for young US women in the period 1970-2009.

So why do we ignore the advice of the Skin Cancer Foundation when it says that everyone over the age of six months should use sunscreen daily all year round, in any weather? Perhaps it’s because, as some people say that they’re afraid of the chemicals in sunscreens, or that sunscreens make them break-out; or they’re afraid they won’t get enough Vitamin D; or because sunscreens can be so thick they won’t rub in. For some of these reasons, many women have turned to moisturizing SPFs, but used as the only UV protection, most of these products simply cannot provide adequate protection. Again according to the Skin Cancer Foundation, an SPF of 15 or higher is acceptable for everyday activity, and an SPF of 30 or higher is acceptable for extended or intense outdoor exposure.

Nearly 30 years had passed since Dr. Laszlo penned the original formulation, and it was anticipated that it might require updating. What was discovered, however, was that the transcript Dr. Laszlo left behind was already a high-tech hybrid, and only small alterations were made in the formula to capitalize on some of the newest breakthroughs in anti-aging actives.

KEY INGREDIENTS

The exact formula for 3-9 is a closely guarded secret. How to get the “70′s Venice Beach chic” look seen at the Jonathan Simkhai S/S 2013 show

The inspiration for the Jonathan Simkhai look was 70′s Venice Beach chic – think an effortlessly stylish California girl with a hot skateboarder boyfriend. We wanted gorgeous hair with movement, but not too done. This look was one of my favorites at Fashion Week because it’s perfect any event or occasion. I love the idea of undone hair with a major makeup look or dress, and it’s so easy to go from day to night with this style.

How to get the look:

First, I used the T3 Featherweight Luxe 2i Dryer to blowdry the hair straight. (This dryer is a must at Fashion Week because we have 20-40 girls to style and it dries the hair in minutes!) Next, I tied up the hair in a loose bun and secured it with a large French pin. This is a good idea when getting the look at home because you can leave your hair in the messy bun and keep it out of your face while doing makeup or getting dressed. Also, by pinning the hair in a bun you get what I like to call a “dent” - not really a wave or curl but not super straight either.

Next, I used the T3 SinglePass 1″ Styling Iron to enhance natural-looking waves. After taking the hair down, I moved quickly through small sections with an ”S” motion. To complete the look, lightly spritz over hair with a texturizer spray, and you’re ready to go.
