Can you get a peel from a pad? Oh yes you can, and you can have all the skin-friendly benefits of probiotics all in one step!
Two to four times a week, swipe the no-rinse resurfacing pads over your face for an easy at-home treatment. mybody recommends using two pads per session and if you have any excess product on the pad, use it on your décolleté and the backs of your hands.
With consistent use, the non-irritating pads will give results comparable to a chemical peel with no flaking or down time. These resurfacing pads help reduce pores and blemishes, and diminish the look of fine lines and wrinkles, all while giving a beautiful GLOW. You may also want to try the companion serum, mybody GLOWBIOTICS Probiotic HydraGlow Cream Oil. After all, everyone looks better with a little radiance.
Exfoliation is the removal of the top layer of dead skin cells that can turn our complexions dull and ashy, to reveal the younger, plumper skin cells underneath. When we are young, our cells naturally turn over every 28 days, so we always have gorgeous skin. As we age, the process slows down, making it necessary to help it along. By exfoliating, you will boost the efficacy of the other products you are using too! Getting rid of those dead cells also clears that layer of skin which can be a barrier that prevents your serums and moisturizers from deeply penetrating.
There are so many exfoliation products that choosing the best for your skin can be a challenge. Here are some general tips that apply most often. As always there can be exceptions.
Chemical exfoliants contain enzymes which act like little Pac-Man figures that gently eat away the dead skin cells. They are the least likely to irritate sensitive skin types as they tend to be more skin-friendly than polishing beads or scrubs. Yet they are still effective enough to do a thorough job. Elemis makes the luxurious Papaya Enzyme Peel that is really wonderful. If you haven’t used a peel before, don’t let the word scare you. Technology has improved so you won’t experience skin actually peeling off with at-home peels. Just softer, smoother skin that is ready for your treatment products!
Scrubs use ingredients like jojoba beads or other gentle particles to slough of the dead skin cells. Christie Brinkley Authentic Skincare Complete Clarity Facial Exfoliating Polish will give your skin a beautifully polished feel.
Peel Pads come in different strengths, from gentle for sensitive skin, to extra-strength for more tolerant skin. They have beneficial AHAs such as Glycolic Acid to exfoliate without any abrasion. Dr. Dennis Gross makes excellent peel pads that are safe for everyday use.
Gommage is the most aggressive exfoliation you can find for at- home use. It is a 3-in-1 exfoliant that includes enzymes, AHAs, and buffing beads. It is ideal for very tolerant skin. ARCONA, one of our natural brands, offers the Cranberry Gommage which unclogs and tightens pores.
Of course you can always go to the spa and get professional treatments such as peels. These tend to be more aggressive and great for correcting deep skin concerns. You may experience temporary redness, flaking and down time with these procedures. Make sure you discuss what to expect as well as after-care with your skin care professional.
Can you over-exfoliate? Yes. You can actually cause damage by doing it too much. How often should I do it? Well, that also depends on your skin type. Sensitive skin should be exfoliated once every 7-10 days. Dry to Normal skin can exfoliate 1-2 times a week; combination to oily skin can exfoliate 3 times a week.
Fresh from the labs of Dr. Perricone: his innovative line of skin care disguised as makeup! These pigmented serums deliver the science that his line is known and loved for. DMAE lifts and firms and Neuropeptides train your skin cells to mimic the behavior of younger skin cells. Alpha Lipoic Acid is a powerful antioxidant that diminishes lines and wrinkles and reduces the appearance of pores. Vitamin C Ester is a stabilized form of Vitamin C that will brighten and build collagen. All of this, plus the beautiful glow of healthy skin.
The newer version of the No Foundation Foundation is called the No Foundation Foundation Serum. This differs from the previous versions in its finish. The No Foundation Foundation No. 1 and 2 offer a dewy finish. The No Foundation Foundation Serum offers a finish that is referred to as “suede”, which is just between dewy and matte. This is a buildable-coverage serum that has an application technique. First, shake the serum to mix the colors. Second, dot it on each area of your face. Third, press into your skin with a tapping motion so you soak in all the benefits. Last, blend it out. You can contour by using it with the No Bronzer Bronzer and Highlight with the stunningly beautiful No Highlighter Highlighter. Finish your healthy skin with the rosy No Blush Blush. You can also use the No Blush Blush as a lip color! The same application technique goes for all of them. You really can customize your look with this totally mixable line.
Another product we love is the No Mascara Mascara. It is different from any other mascara you’ve used before. It comes only in a black-brown with a hint of auburn that really compliments any eye color. The wand is double sided. One side has longer bristles so you can coat from the root and lengthen the lashes. The other side has shorter bristles which act as a comb so you can separate the lashes. The wand also bends for maximum coating ability. You’ll have gorgeous lashes and lash conditioning benefits!
When we think of probiotics, most of us would agree they are a great supplement for digestive health. But what do they do for the skin topically? Probiotics stimulate the skin’s immune system and stimulate reparative action. So, this is excellent news for everyone, but really excellent news for those who have inflammation or are prone to redness. People who have reactive skin or are recovering from aggressive skin procedures will also benefit.
One of mybody’s many awesome, probiotic-based products is the Calm After The Storm Soothing Treatment. It brings relief to dry, itchy and irritated skin. If you’ve had a reaction to a product, this is your go-to serum for relief. But, this is not just a one-trick pony. It also has an instant tightening effect that will make your skin firmer. All the while, it’s wrapped in this skin-defending and healing formulation. This serum plays well with others and is perfect to layer with a different serum or you can use this in the morning and another serum at night!
We really love the mybody line. You can check out all their products on our site. If you’d like help with recommendations, please call us!
Renowned celebrity dermatologist and scientist Dr. Perricone offers a full skin care line that addresses anti-aging by reducing inflammation both internally and topically. We have had only great experiences with his line, but one product we really love is the Face Finishing Moisturizer Tint SPF 30.
This lightweight, oil-free moisturizer has a hint of color that flatters all skin tones and gives that radiant glow. The Vitamin C ester, a stabilized Vitamin C, will help brighten the skin, which makes it on par with a CC Cream, but in a jar. Literally just a pearl-sized amount is enough for your entire face. One jar should be a four-month supply. What we really love is that it seems to blur discolorations and imperfections.
Best of all, you get a sun protection factor of 30 with no harsh chemicals and no sunscreen fragrance. The light scent of roses gives this a truly luxurious essence. Plus, there is no residue after it absorbs, so you hardly know you are wearing anything, much less a sunscreen. It also comes in a non-tinted version if that is your preference. If you are looking for science in your skin care with a better-than-makeup, naturally healthy look, you will love this! We do!
We’ve all heard the claims that promise “Youth in a Bottle,” but we’ve been duped more than once. So what are the actual benefits of a moisturizer?
Moisturizers of course prevent dryness, which makes skin look dull and frankly, older. They also provide a protective barrier to shield your skin from environmental pollution that creates free radicals, the culprits that cause wrinkles and damage skin cells. If you use a serum, a moisturizer literally seals the deal. Putting that last layer of armor over your serum not only helps it penetrate better, but keeps any residue from evaporating. Serums tend to be the priciest products in any line, so we don’t want to waste our investment.
How are moisturizers different from hydrators? Hydrators address the level of water in your skin. They are water-based, as opposed to moisturizers, which typically have a measure of oil in them. They are great for dehydrated skin as they penetrate more deeply to really hold moisture in, keeping your skin cells plump. Every skin type struggles with dehydration, regardless of water intake. People who travel frequently are often in need of extra hydration.
Every skin type, even the oiliest, needs moisturizer. If you need help determining your best option, please call us and speak with our estheticians for a personalized recommendation.

If the herbal bath is too intense for you, try their Kneipp Eucalyptus Cold and Sinus Mineral Bath Salts. It has all the same benefits of its counterpart but is slightly less fragrant. Bath salts can be detoxifying and are proven to shorten the life of a cold.

This skin-softening cleanser will leave your skin fresh and lightly scented. Kneipp is a natural brand born from a German apothecary with good-for-you ingredients. Gesundheit!
Okay, it is a mouthful, but it’s amazing!! This is truly an all-in-one eye cream that does what it promises. Insert happy dance here.
As an esthetician, I am constantly reviewing new products. So it’s gets a little harder to impress me after I’ve seen hundreds of formulations and innovations. This product I am actually excited about. Topix left no stone unturned in this remarkable eye cream. It‘s so lightweight I would almost consider it a serum, but it is deeply hydrating without any heaviness. The hyaluronic acid in it binds moisture to the skin and plumps it, giving your eyes a soft, youthful appearance. The hydration lasts all day which is really good news for glasses wearers or for those who suffer with under eye dryness.
The all-trans retinol is a special formulation of retinol that effectively penetrates to build collagen without irritation. It firms and increases elasticity in the gravity-prone eye area. Vitamins nourish, antioxidants protect from wrinkles. Embilca helps with smoothing the texture. Ceramides restore the skin’s protective barrier. Peptides repair fine lines and wrinkles. Niacinimide, Vitamin K, and arnica all brighten the area and help with dark circles. As with the entire Replenix line, the concentration of the green tea polyphenols gives the product a tan color that dissipates on application.
Wow! This is a really a powerhouse of ingredients that I’m kind of in love with. If you’re tired of wasting money on eye creams that only address one or two concerns, the answer is in this little gray pump!
Cleansing your skin is the starting point of any regimen and it is important to do it both morning and night. The purpose in the AM is to wash off any residue your skin has purged during its natural repair cycle, which happens while you sleep. This also gives your makeup a smooth canvas to start. If you use an exfoliating cleanser, morning is an ideal time. At night, you cleanse again to wash off any makeup, dirt, and environmental pollution that can clog pores and cause wrinkles.
Although they can vary in ingredients, the function of all cleansers is the same: to keep your complexion fresh and clean. You can use the same cleanser morning and night. If your budget allows, it is also very beneficial to use an exfoliating cleanser in the morning and a more moisturizing cleanser at night. Or, vice versa, depending on your skin type.
How do I know which cleanser is right for me? Well, preference of texture is a big factor. If you love a gel cleanser I probably won’t be able to convince you to use a creamy cleanser. But there are certain textures that cater to specific skin types. There are exceptions but in general the following tips apply:
If you have dry skin, you will probably prefer a creamy cleanser or a cleansing bar. Creamy cleansers can be soothing and moisturizing to a dry or irritated skin type. Most remove make up, are gentle and effective.
Normal-to-combination skin types are usually well-served by a foaming cleanser, which are available in creamy or gel formulations. They help balance the oil in the t-zone and hydrate the drier cheek areas.
The oily and acne-prone types really benefit from gel cleansers. Gels tend to be more oil absorbing. You can also find them with acne–fighting ingredients like Salicylic Acid. Typically oily skin is more tolerant than the other skin types and can handle stronger acids.
Cleansing oils are a great option for all skin types. They can be a bit harder to fully remove so a second rinse might be required. Oils are excellent for breaking up long-wear makeup. Micellar waters or “waterless” cleansers are really handy for the woman on the move. Just swipe on and no rinsing is needed. Another all-skin type option is cleansing bars. They are available for each skin type as well, so you just have to know what suits you best. Bars with good ingredients are a great option for men as well.
As always, if you need help determining your skin type or would like personalized product recommendations, please call to speak with one of our estheticians. We are happy to help!
